Now that SSDs prices are dropping you might get in the temptation to change your old slow HDD to an new fast SSD but is it really worth the cost?
First of all let us compare those two types of hard disks.
First of all let us compare those two types of hard disks.
HARD DISK DRIVE (HDD)
HDD is one of the oldest types of storage media invented in way back 1954 and it became popular with home computers around the early 90s . They come in a variety of sizes but 500GB and 1TB is the most popular sizes . The good thing about HDDs is that they have a big storage capacity for a cheap price (the price starts at about 50$ ,1TB). But HDDs are not perfect . First of all they are fragile , a bit of a movement while working can mess things up really bad , second problem is (as we said at the start) the read and write speed is bad and the third problem is the noise . HDDs are loud , especially the fast ones and that's because they have mechanical parts that can wear down , which means problems in the future.
SOLID STATE DRIVE (SSD)
SSD is a new type of hard disk that does not use any mechanical parts and that makes SSDs faster . SSDs are the opposite of the HDDs . SSDs are expensive , with small storage capacity but on the plus side they are faster , more relayable (although even SSDs have some wear down) and way smaller in physical size.
Now that we saw the pros and cons lets see the uses
-SSDs are useful to gamers , people who work with editing and for servers
-HDDs are useful to ordinary people who just surf the net or just work with basic
office applications and people who do frequent backups and store a lot of data
